AQA 'A' Level Business: 6-Week Introductory Summer Crash Course (July 2025-August 2025)

Goal: Introduce students to the core AQA ‘A’ Level Business concepts, spark curiosity, and build confidence before the full course begins.

Ideal for: Year 11 leavers / Year 12 starters looking to prepare over the summer or during a transition period.

Learning method: Online course combined with weekly face to face sessions, groups of 8 maximum.

Week 1: What Is Business?

Focus: Why businesses exist and how they create value.

The purpose of business (profit, non-profit, social enterprise).
Understanding different sectors and business types.
Stakeholders: who they are and what they want.

Week 2: Introduction to Finance

Focus: How Finance is used in business.

Understanding financial statements.
Calculating ratios.
Investment appraisal using NPV, Payback Period and Average Rate of Return (ARR).

Week 3: Introduction to Marketing

Focus: How businesses attract and keep customers.

Basic marketing mix (4Ps).
Understanding customer needs.
Market segmentation & targeting.

Week 4: Managers & Leadership

Focus: Who runs businesses and how they lead.

Role of managers vs leaders.
Leadership styles: autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire.
Decision-making basics.

Week 5: People in Business

Focus: Motivation, teams, and how businesses grow through people.

Why people matter to a business.
Introduction to motivation (Maslow’s Hierarchy).
Recruitment basics: job roles, CVs, interviews.

Week 6: Big Picture - Global Business & Strategy

Focus: A-level overview & linking the dots.

Intro to strategy and branding.
Understanding SWOT and Porters 5 Forces models.
